Reception
Home Learning Grid: Each half term, children receive a grid of eight tasks linked to the Early Learning Goals (e.g. writing, maths, communication, personal development, physical skills, understanding the world, expressive arts). Work can be shared in the Home Learning Book or on Google Classroom.
Reading: Children take home a fully decodable book each week, matched to their phonics learning. These books allow children to practise blending, phonemes and red words. Parents are encouraged to ask the comprehension questions provided.
Year 1
Reading: Weekly decodable phonics book, matched to class learning. Parents are encouraged to record comments in Reading Records to support teacher planning.
Maths: Weekly MyMaths task (set Thursday, due Tuesday). Children also use Numbots to build number fluency. A “little and often” approach (3 minutes, 4 times a week) is recommended.
Spelling: Weekly activity set on SpellingFrame (set Thursday, due Tuesday). Children can also use the online games for extra practice.
Years 2-6
Reading: Children are expected to read daily and record this in their Reading Record. Parents/carers may add comments; older pupils can also write their own reflections. Teachers can provide comprehension questions to support discussions at home.
Maths: Weekly MyMaths task (set Thursday, due Tuesday). Pupils also use Times Tables Rockstars to practise (3 minutes, 4–5 times a week recommended).
Spelling: Weekly activity set on SpellingFrame (set Thursday, due Tuesday). Children can also use the online games to practise.
Activity Grids
Alongside the Home Learning set by each year group, we have created Activity Grids to provide families with opportunities to learn, explore and create together. The grids include a range of creative and practical activities, outdoor learning, family challenges, reading, speaking and listening, problem-solving and real-life learning, with activities linked to the National Curriculum where appropriate.
The Activity Grids are entirely optional. Activities can be completed when and if they suit your family, and there is no expectation that pupils complete them all.
