Year 5 and Reception Buddies

Starting school is a big milestone, and at Bowmansgreen we want our youngest pupils to feel happy, confident and part of our school community from the very beginning.

To help with this, each Reception child is paired with a Year 5 Buddy when they join our school. Our older pupils take on the important role of being a friendly face and a helping hand, supporting their Reception Buddy as they settle into school life.

Buddies enjoy spending time together throughout the year, sharing stories, playing games and taking part in special activities. Our Year 5 pupils are wonderful role models for our youngest children, helping them to feel safe, included and confident as they get to know their new surroundings.

The Buddy programme is also a fantastic opportunity for our Year 5 pupils to develop their responsibility, kindness, confidence and leadership skills. It helps to strengthen relationships across the school and creates a real sense of community, where everyone has a part to play in looking after one another.

We are proud of the caring relationships that develop between our Reception and Year 5 pupils and love seeing these special friendships grow throughout the year.
